Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Georgetown Soccer Club cancel games for rain/thunderstorms or extreme heat?
Please note that the Georgetown Soccer Club does not cancel games for either rain or hot/humid weather.
The Canadian Soccer Association has updated its severe weather procedure and as such we wanted to inform you of the changes as GSC abides by these procedures.
The safety of players, coaches, management and spectators is the primary concern in any weather event that occurs during all matches/sessions/practices sanctioned by Canada Soccer. By understanding and following the information below, the safety of everyone shall be greatly increased. Ultimately, the referee or skills instructor or coach if it is a practice, has the final say over delaying or restarting a match/session/practice due to weather. Waiting to stop play or not waiting to start play may result in a serious injury or loss of life. Referees/skills instructors/coaches are expected to act responsibly when dealing with such events during matches/skills sessions/practice they are controlling If you can hear thunder, you can get hit by lightning. As such all referees/skills instructors have been informed that as soon as you hear thunder, everyone should get to a safe location.
As always it is the parents’ discretion to remove their child from any activity or game if they feel that their safety is in question. Stay in a safe location for 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder.
During extremely hot/humid weather, parents may use their own discretion as to whether or not their child will play soccer. Players will not be penalized for choosing not to play in such conditions but games will not be cancelled. Referees may allow for extra water breaks during extremely warm temperatures.
Should the Town of Halton Hills decide fields are in jeopardy due to heavy rains, they may close the fields. If this happens, the Georgetown Soccer Club office will be notified and will, in turn, post information under Club News, post updates on Facebook and Twitter as well as notifying convenors and coaches as quickly as possible.
What are Opening Day and Closing Day?
Opening Day is the first day of the season. All teams play an exhibition game on this day and will get the individual and team photos taken.
On Closing Day, all U5-U12 players will play an exhibition game and receive their participation trophies. Teams in the U14-U18 age groups that advance to the finals, will play a game on this day and receive their trophies.
When does the outdoor house league season begin? When does it end? How long is it?
The season begins with Opening Day on May 23, 2015 and ends with Closing Day on Sept 12, 2015. The season runs for 14 weeks beginning the week of May 25, 2015.
When will the house league schedules be ready?
Once the GSC has received its field permits from the Town, schedules will be available through the online system - this is usually towards the end of April. Tentative playing nights are posted on our website under the House League tab at the top of the home page.
Where are the house league games usually played?
Games are played at various fields all in Georgetown.
When are games played?
Games are played at various times but the earliest time start is 6:15 pm.
When will I hear from my child's coach?
Who needs to have a police record check done?
Volunteer screening is required for every team official in the GSC as per OSA guidelines.
The GSC accepts Vulnerable Sector Police Checks as being valid for 3 years with a new check required in the third year. All Police Check information is confidential. Photocopies of the police check form made by the GSC will be kept on file. If a photocopy is done by a coach, the original must be shown to the GSC staff when the form is submitted to ensure consistency.
Can my child wear jewelry (including earrings) or a cast while playing?
In accordance with the OSA’s Rules of Soccer, no jewelry is permitted to be worn during games. Please be aware that referees are not obliged to remind players to remove their jewelry and any player found wearing jewelry on the field will be sent off. Players will not be permitted to play with a hard or soft cast on any part of their body. This is a safety concern for all players.
What equipment should my child wear to their games each week?
Each player must wear provided soccer jersey, shorts and socks, as well as shin pads and soccer shoes (provided by the parents). Any and all jewelry (including headbands, hairclips and hats) must be removed. Eyeglasses with plastic lenses may only be worn with a safety strap.
What side of the field should the players sit on?
Although we do not have player benches at all of our fields, we ask that coaches and players remain on the opposite side of the field as parents/spectators. This minimizes distraction and enables coaches to keep track of players in order to ensure equal playing time. Players are asked to remain with their coaches throughout the game.
My child's team has lost every game, are you going to balance the teams?
Every attempt is made to create balanced teams in each age group. Once the teams are made, players will NOT be moved around and teams will NOT be changed or re-balanced.
What coaching credentials do I need to coach my child's house league team?
All coaches are required to sign our Coach's Code of Conduct and provide a valid police check with vulnerable sector checked. If you would like to coach your child's team for the outdoor season, please forward your name and phone number to info@georgetownsoccerclub.com stating your child's name and birth date.
Can I request that my child be on the same team as another?
The GSC is not able to ensure that players are on a specific team. U5-U12 teams are built randomly using a software program and U14-U18 teams are built by the coaches during a drafting process. If two parents are coaching a team together, this will ensure that their children are playing on the same team.
How do I make a formal complaint?
The Club has a complaint resolution process that ensures that all valid complaints/concerns are investigated and addressed while protecting the confidentiality of both the information submitted as well as the identify of those involved. In order to register a complaint/concern, please send an E-mail including all pertinent details to the attention of the Director of Complaint Resolution at
complaintresolution@georgetownsoccerclub.com. Please note anonymous complaints cannot be accepted.
